Why wouldn't I just hire a full-time designer?
You should definitely consider it! A full-time designer can be an excellent long-term investment for your team.
Let’s look at the downsides of hiring a full-time designer:
- It can take months to find and hire the right candidate. With LASTING, we get to the work right away.
- A senior-level designer can expect to make at least $100k a year in most markets, without benefits. A LASTING subscription is a fraction of that.
- Do you have enough work for a full-time employee? With LASTING, you can pause your subscription if things slow down.
Why should I work with you?
There are lots of design agencies and services out there, both subscription-model and otherwise. You should work with LASTING if you value the following:
- Small client pool – we want to work with the best clients, not the most. Each LASTING client gets the same level of attention and care, and we won’t compromise on that.
- Flexibility – we’re very used to shifting priorities. Although our communication style is mostly async, our processes and methods can be adjusted to fit your needs.
- You have a wide range of design work – with over a decade of design experience, we can design just about anything you might need.
- You have ongoing design needs – a subscription design service is ideal for clients that have a lot of design work in the pipeline.
- Mutual respect – we want to help you achieve your goals above all, and will listen carefully to cater to your needs. We’re also not afraid to speak our minds and share an opinion, when we think it might be of service to you.
Why a subscription service vs. fixed scope projects?
To be clear, a subscription service may not be right for everyone – but there are a number of reasons why traditional “fixed scope” projects are a bad idea, especially if the project is large.
It’s unrealistic to try to accurately scope projects up front. Can you think of a web or app project where you’ve been able to do this? There’s just too many variables at play, such as lack of research, unanticipated technical hurdles, and more. I’m not the only one who thinks this.
Because a subscription model does not have fixed scope, it allows the team to adapt quickly based on new insights gained during work on the project.
At LASTING, we get started quickly and favor small experiments. While each request is worked, learnings are shared and new requests or experiments should be created.
This is a nuanced topic for sure. If you have questions or concerns, let’s talk.
What if I only have a single request?
How big is your request? If it’s a whole project, like designing a website, that is beyond one request. We can work together to make sure your requests are appropriately sized to be delivered in 2-3 days.
You can also pause your subscription when finished with your request, and then return later when you have additional design needs.
If you truly just have one design request, LASTING is probably not the right solution for you.
What are the limits on requests?
You can have as many requests in your queue as you wish, and you can reprioritize them whenever you want.
On the Standard plan, we work on one active request at a time. What that means is that we will work on one task/request until that request is ready for your feedback and approval.
On the Pro plan, you can have two active requests at a time.
How do we communicate?
In general, all communication will happen through requests on your design board. Your requests can reference external documents and services, such as a shared Google doc or a Jira ticket for example. As long as there is access and a link in the request, we can communicate within your external system or document.
If you think you will require additional communication, such as Slack or regular meetings – let’s talk about it in a discovery call.
Who will I be working with?
LASTING is an entirely one-man studio, so you’ll be working directly with Brian, the founder and designer.
How much can we actually get done in one month?
On the Standard plan, you can expect 2-3 requests to be sent for feedback per week. For a month, that is 8-12 requests. Double that on the Pro plan. More complex requests can take longer, or be split into multiple requests.
It’s also important that requests are complete enough. For example, we will need clear task descriptions and any client-side assets (logos, fonts, etc.) for the request. Some simple guidelines are provided in your design board to help with this.
To give you an idea of the scope of a single request, here are some examples:
- Landing page design, mocked up in Figma
- 1-2 logo design options
- Business card design
- 1-2 screens of UI wireframes
Can you assist with creating the requests?
Absolutely! We can work together to craft a strategic approach to the work on your project – organizing and prioritizing requests to ensure the right things get done, the right way, at the right time.
What programs do you design in?
Most UI and web design work is done within Figma.
For brand and print work, we may use Affinity Designer or other tools when appropriate.
You will have full access to all design files, and they can be provided in whatever format you need for compatibility.
What if I don't like the design?
If you’re not happy with a design, we will revise it until you’re 100% satisfied. There’s no limit on revisions.
What platforms do you develop websites in?
If you’re going to have your own team build your website, we will provide annotated Figma files to assist your developers.
If you want LASTING to develop your website, we generally build them in WordPress. While there are lots of great solutions to build a website, we like WordPress for the following reasons:
- Robust ecosystem – there’s virtually no limit to what you can build
- Platform longevity – WordPress has been around for over 20 years
- Widely used – in 2024, 43.2% of all websites on the internet are run on WordPress
- Cheaper to run – a fairly simple WordPress site can be run very inexpensively on a good web hosting provider
- No lock-in – you’re not completely tied to a single provider and platform
Is there any design and development work you don't cover?
Yes, there are certain areas LASTING doesn’t specialize in, such as 3D modeling, animated graphics (GIFs, etc.), document design (medical forms, etc.), complex packaging, extensive print design (magazines, books, etc.), and some complex back-end development tasks.
If you need any clarification, let’s talk.
How do I manage my subscription?
A link will be shared on your design board where you can modify, pause, or cancel your subscription at any time.
How does the pause feature work?
Subscription plans run on a 31 day billing cycle. If you pause your subscription during the middle of a billing cycle, you will have a credit of the remaining days in your cycle when you re-activate your subscription.
Are there any refunds if I don't like the service?
Due to the on-demand nature of the service, we do not offer refunds. We’re committed to ensuring your complete satisfaction and will make necessary adjustments to meet your requirements.
